Barkin: Strength of dollar 'not shocking' - REUTERS
WOODBRIDGE, Va., Sept 30 (Reuters) - The strength of the U.S. dollar is “not shocking” given the relative strength of the U.S. economy and weakness overseas, Richmond Federal Reserve Bank President Thomas Barkin said on Friday.
“The dollar has been very strong. That is not shocking,” Barkin said. “Our economy has retained strength in places where some foreign economies seem weaker ... places like Europe have a lot of downside risk right now.” (Reporting by Howard Schneider Editing by Chris Reese)
