West African regional market debt issuance to rise 27.7% in 2026 - REUTERS

JANUARY 30, 2026

LOME, Jan 28 (Reuters) – Debt issuance in the eight-member West African monetary union (UEMOA) is expected to rise 27.7% to 15.143 trillion CFA francs ($27.86 billion) in 2026, Arouna Sow, an official at regional debt agency UMOA-Titres, said on Wednesday.

The jump in issuance comes as the eight countries of the monetary union that includes Benin, Burkina Faso, Guinea-Bissau, Ivory Coast, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo, increasingly turn to the regional market for financing.

Senegal said earlier on Wednesday that it plans to raise 4.132 trillion CFA francs ($7.54 billion), while economic power-house Ivory Coast said Tuesday that it plans to raise 4.221 trillion CFA francs ($7.69 billion) during the year.
