The Federal government has moved to fully implement an industrial roadmap for the country by taking a look at the industrial policies in the past that were abandoned, and proffer solutions on how to revolutionise the sector.

Speaking on Thursday in Abuja while inaugurating the Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG), the Minister of State for Industry, Sen. John Owan Enoh said for Nigeria to gain effectively from exports, there was need for an increase in the production of value-added commodities.

“The inauguration of the Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG) is more than an initiative. It is a clarion call to action, a bold commitment to reshaping our nation’s economic destiny.

“History had shown us that no country attains sustainable prosperity without a robust and competitive industrial base. We will assess and strategically resuscitate industries that have long held untapped potentials”.

He explained that through technology, adoption, capacity building, and quality reforms, “we will foster an environment where Nigerian manufacturers thrive locally and globally” the Minister stated.

The Keynote Speaker at the event, and the former Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment, Dr. Olusegun Aganga commended the current administration’s commitment to revitalizing Nigeria’s industrial landscape.

“For decades, Nigeria has struggled with the challenge of industrial stagnation, where once, private industries have succumbed to inefficiencies, outdated policies, and infrastructure decay.

“To address this, Nigeria launched an Industrial Revolution plan in 2014, commenced implementation, and then put it in the cooler for almost 10 years.

“if that plan had been rigorously implemented as it was intended, Nigeria today would have become a top competitive global exporter in at least three or four of the 13 products identified for export”.

Aganga said It is all about continuity, “it is all about discipline. However, today is not a day to dwell on the past page. Today is a day to embrace a new future, one that aligns with our collective aspirations for national economic transformation.

“The IRWG represents a strategic and pragmatic approach to industrial policy making, as well as policy execution by bringing together key stakeholders from the public and the private sector to this initiative that will drive a targeted structured process to tackle the pressing challenges facing Nigeria’s manufacturing sector, and resuscitate moribund industries”.

He said the initiative creates enabling environment for sustainable industrial growth, charging the Committee members to put the country on the path of renewed industrial development.

In his goodwill message, the Special Adviser to the President on Industry, Trade and Investment, Mr.John Ugochukwu Uwajumogu emphasized that it is important for the country’s industry base to grow for the economy to grow as well.

The Industrial Revolution Work Group (IRWG) will serve as Nigeria’s one-stop hub for industrial transformation. The IRWG will diagnose challenges, formulate strategic responses, and implement hands-on solutions that will enhance productivity, competition, job creation, and economic resilience.
