By Johnson Eyiangho, Abuja
Nigeria recorded an increase in the volume of trade in 2024 by 20.7 per cent, worth $5.45 billion, the Executive Director of Nigeria Export Promotion Council (NEPC), Mrs Nonye Ayeni, has said.
Ayeni also said that during the period, 245 distinct products were exported to 126 countries.
Speaking with reporters on the sidelines of a two-day retreat organised by the Federal Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, she pledged the council’s better performance in 2025.
“Nigeria is growing, the Renewed Hope Agenda is impactful,” Ayeni said.
The retreat, themed ‘Accelerating Diversification to Rebuild Prosperity by Leveraging Industry, Trade and Investment’ unveiled the ministry’s 2025 roadmap to accelerate economic diversification.
After the retreat, the leadership of the ministry and chief executive officers of agencies under the ministry signed a performance bond to deliver results in line with the ministry’s mandate.
At the signing of the bond, yesterday, the Minister, Dr Jumoke Oduwole, said the ministry was poised to unlock Nigeria’s vast industrial and trade potential to position the country as a global economic powerhouse.
She commended the leadership for their commitment to align with the Presidential Eight-Point Agenda and the impressive presentations from the various departments and agencies during the retreat.
One of the highlights of the retreat was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between FMITI and the Aig-Imoukhuede Foundation, aimed at driving digitisation, performance management systems, and capacity building across the ministry.
