  • Blinken underscores the intertwined futures of the US and Africa, emphasizing commitment to growth.
  • In November, Nigeria sought out US assistance for agricultural challenges.

As reported by BBC, the US noted that it still has an interest in Africa as it begins a four-nation tour in Africa. The countries set to receive a visit from Anthony Blinken, the US Secretary of State are Cape Verde, Nigeria, Algeria, and Ivory Coast.

In Cape Verde, where the tour has already started, the Secretary of State referred to the nation as a real “beacon of stability in the region, at a time when there's more of our share of instability and challenge.”

US President Joe Biden attempted to bolster his credentials in terms of his involvement in the developing continent by welcoming African leaders at the US-Africa summit in 2022.

He vowed to visit Africa in 2023, but the plan never materialized, as seen in the BBC’s report.

Conflicts in the Middle East had not allowed for the Secretary of State to visit the continent. However, relaying Joe Biden’s sentiments he said, while in Cape Verde that the interests of the USA and Africa are intertwined, and the US is very committed to growing their already established relationship.

“We are all in when it comes to Africa", Anthony Blinken stated. "Our futures are linked, our prosperity is linked, and African voices increasingly are shaping, animating, and leading the global conversation," the state secretary added.

In November, Nigeria asked the US government for help in addressing important problems that are harming the nation's agriculture industry.

Nigeria’s Vice President Kashim Shettima held a meeting with Cary Fowler, the US Special Envoy for Global Food Security, to start a conversation.
