US Becomes Net Exporter of Crude to Nigeria in 2025 - ENERGY CAPITAL
The U.S. became a net exporter of crude oil to Nigeria in February and March 2025, with the country exporting more than it imported from the African nation for the first time, the U.S. Energy Information Administration said on Tuesday.
Increased exports were accredited to reduced demand in the US, owing to ongoing refinery maintenance, as well as increased feedstock demand for the Dangote Refinery in Nigeria.
Nigeria imported 111,000 bpd from the U.S. in February 2025 and 169,000 bpd in March 2025. Concurrently, Nigerian exports to the U.S. fell from 133,000 bpd in January 2025 to 54,000 bpd in February. Heightened imports come as the country strives to bring the 650,000 bpd Dangote refinery to full capacity – targeted for 2025 – following the start of operations in January 2024.
Nigeria has long-been a major crude supplier for the U.S., representing one of the country’s top five sources of crude imports.
