May 19 (Reuters) – The following company announcements, scheduled economic indicators, debt and currency market moves and political events may affect African markets on Monday.
GLOBAL MARKETS
Asian shares slipped on Monday as a mixed bag of Chinese economic data showed the domestic economy was struggling even as U.S. tariffs began to bite into exports, while the White House kept up its rhetorical pressure on trade partners.
WORLD OIL PRICES
Oil prices slipped on Monday, weighed down by Moody’s downgrade of the U.S. sovereign credit rating and official data that showed a slow down in the pace of China’s industrial output and retail sales.
SOUTH AFRICA MARKETS
South Africa’s rand eased from its strongest level in five months on Friday, a day after a minister said that a new inflation-targeting plan was imminent.
KENYA MARKETS
The Kenyan shilling was little changed against the dollar on Thursday, London Stock Exchange Group (LSEG) data showed.
