Justin Trudeau is out. Mark Carney is in. And his arrival as Canada’s new leader creates an opening for the government in Ottawa to reset its tense relationship with the US and President Donald Trump.
The former central banker will be sworn in Friday morning, officially becoming Canada’s 24th prime minister. He’s taking over a country anxious about Trump’s threats and implementation of tariffs and seething with frustration over his assertion that Canada should be the 51st US state.
