The Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC) has announced that Nigeria’s trade volume for 2024 reached 7.2 metric tonnes, marking a 20.7% increase in value, which totaled $5.45 billion.
The Executive Director of NEPC, Nonye Ayeni made the announcement during the Ministry of Industry, Trade, and Investment’s retreat for the presentation of the 2025 roadmap, held on Monday in Abuja.
“In terms of value, we saw a 20.7% growth, bringing the total to $5.45 billion, and we are now represented in 126 countries. This clearly shows that Nigeria is making significant strides,” Ayeni stated. “The Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Tinubu is having a positive impact, and our efforts are yielding results. We expect even better performance in 2025 as we continue to strengthen our initiatives.”
Ayeni highlighted the NEPC’s mandate to diversify Nigeria’s economy away from its dependence on oil by promoting non-oil exports. She reiterated the council’s commitment to improving the capacity of exporters, ensuring that Nigerian products meet international standards from the farm gate to market access.
“We are committed to supporting exporters, enhancing their capabilities in good agricultural practices, and achieving the NEPC’s mandate,” Ayeni said.
In 2024, the NEPC conducted approximately 629 capacity-building programs across the country, partnering with various development organizations and agencies. Ayeni noted that the council was working to mainstream export initiatives nationwide, from the North to the South and West, to increase the volume and value of non-oil exports.
“Our goal is to not only increase the volume and value of non-oil exports but also to help build the capacity of exporters. We aim to offer international certifications to our exporters free of charge, enabling them to access niche markets and sell their products globally,” she said.
Furthermore, Ayeni emphasized the NEPC’s focus on connecting Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) with seasoned exporters, providing training and skill-building programs to support their growth in the global market.
