Nigeria sets Feb. 20, 2027 for presidential vote, parliamentary polls - REUTERS
ABUJA, Feb 13 (Reuters) – Nigeria will hold its next presidential election on February 20, 2027, the electoral commission said on Friday, setting up a vote that will test President Bola Tinubu’s reform agenda.
A parliamentary election will be held the same day, while governorship polls in the 36 states are scheduled for March 6, 2027, Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman Joash Ojo Amupitan told a news conference.
Campaigns for the presidential and national assembly elections will run from November 18, 2026, to February 19, 2027. Governorship and state assembly campaigns will begin on December 15, 2026, and end on March 5, 2027, the commission said.
On Tuesday, Nigeria’s Senate reversed its earlier rejection of a proposal requiring real-time electronic transmission of election results, bowing to pressure from labour unions, civil society and lawyers seeking to prevent electoral fraud and manipulation.
